What is it about music that you like?

I heard a few different opinions on this, and wanted to get more.

Is it just the music?

Is it just the lyrics?

Is it a combo of lyrics and music?

Is it that you understand what the musician is talking about?

Is it the genre?

Is it something else?

When I go on myspace, and a band has "friended" me, I listen to a combo of music and lyrics. If it doesn't sound good to me, I'm not their "friend". If I like the lyrics, I often to to understand the meaning behind it.

What about you?

What is it about music that you like?

i like losing myself in a song so its gotta be the whole experience..melody+lyrics+ emotions the artist puts in. never mind what the musician wants to impart cuz when you listen to a song, you gotta make your own connection. thats how liking a particular song starts, at least for me..

What is it about music that you like?

it soothes the savage beast(me)

I like the lyrics and, teh soothing sound of the guitar (acoustic), listen to the drugs dont work, by the verve, the lead singer wrote it about his dad who's hooked on drugs, the first time I heard it I burst into tears!

What is it about music that you like?

I like everything.

Music can be comforting and uplifting. And sometimes reach your very heart. In times of sorrow bring you to tears.Or even memories flood back from your childhood.

What is it about music that you like?

I'm usually attracted to a song because of the words. Music has always had an important place in the times of my life. Once I like a song or two by an artist, I usually look into their latest CD for more. This latest chain of events has actually got me into the country music genre which I have never gotten into before!

What is it about music that you like?

Some songs tend to "catch" me the first time I hear them but others may take listening to the words and music to see if I can relate, if they make sense or if maybe I missed something in the original screening.

I normally don't "follow" a band until I've had a chance to see them live... to see how they perform live, interact with the crowd and if they sound anything like their recordings.

The biggest thing to turn me off of a band, is to go and spend money on the ticket and have the band come out and play with no zeal and have little to no interaction with the audience.

What is it about music that you like?

I like the music and lyrics-that's why i like eminem-because the music is good and the lyrics have good meaning.

What is it about music that you like?

i'm into rock and metal. the things that make me decide on wether i like the song are:

-the riff

-how fast it is

-whether it's really heavy

-the vocals

sometimes i can't really understand what the vocalist is singing (or screaming) but if i look up the lyrics then it makes me connect with the song more.

there's just something about metal that i love.. probably coz it's just non stop heavy noise!

What is it about music that you like?

To me, music is a time machine.

When I listen to a song by Peter Frampton or early Queen, Led Zepplin, I'm back in high school, playing football or just hanging out at the beach...

When I listen to the Talking Heads, old Van Halen, the Who, and the Motels, I'm in college, clubbing it at Madam Wongs or the Starwood; maybe listen to some Blasters, and I'm at the Whiskey...

When I hear a disco song, or something by Earth Wind and Fire or the Ohio Players, I'm at Dillon's in Westwood, Annabelles, Dollar Drink Night at Don Jose's in Torrance, Noah's Ark in Long Beach...

When I hear Working for the Weekend or Don't You Want Me, Baby, I'm at the Red Onion in Redondo.

So many songs, so much time has passed...Music lets me escape back to those good times.
